VoIP systems sends calls through the Internet as opposed to through traditional phone lines, so anyone using the system can be anywhere in the world while using the same phone number. Hosted VoIP has the same functionality as the traditional VoIP systems, however the system is hosted by a service provider. This means the business usually pays a higher monthly fee for the services, but lower upfront costs than a traditional VoIP system.
